Bonfire Night: the best firework displays in Oxfordshire

The nights are drawing in, and that means we have a few classic British events to look forward to – none more so than Bonfire Night, the night we remember the foiling of Guy Fawkes’ infamous plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament. The 5th of November falls on a Thursday this year, which means that the best displays across the country have been moved to the nearest Saturday, the 7th. Here’s our pick of the best firework events across the county.


1. Oxford Round Table Firework Display

When: Saturday 7 November 2015; gates open at 4.30pm, fireworks at 6.45pm.
Where: South Park, Headington Hill, Oxford
Cost: £6 per adult, or £15 for a family of four; under 5s go free.

Oxford’s Round Table Firework Display is always good value, featuring a spectacular display along with an enormous bonfire, a funfair and entertainment provided by JACK FM.


2. Standlake Fireworks Spectacular

When: Saturday 7 November 2015; gates open at 6pm, fireworks at 7pm
Where: Standlake Village Hall, Standlake, Oxfordshire
Cost: £5 per adult, £3 per child, or £13 for a family of four.

Raising money for the 1st Standlake and Cokethorpe Sea Scouts, this friendly annual community event in the pretty village of Standlake includes live music, a barbecue, mulled wine and beer.


3. Old Swan and Minster Mill Bonfire and Fireworks

When: Saturday 7 November 2015; gates open from 6pm, bonfire lit at 6.30pm, fireworks at 7.15pm
Where: Old Swan and Minster Mill, Minster Lovell, Oxfordshire
Cost: £5 per adult, £2.50 concession and children; under 4s go free.

A professional display is accompanied by a hog roast and other refreshments, making this another great choice for those wanting to escape the city on Bonfire Night.


4. Didcot Rotary Fireworks

When: Saturday 7 November 2015; gates open 5.30pm
Where: Brasenose Recreation Ground, Brasenose Road, Didcot
Cost: Not yet confirmed

Enjoy a charity firework display accompanied by a funfair, delicious doughnuts and other delights at this annual Didcot Bonfire Night event, organised by the Didcot Rotary Club.


5. Alexandra Palace Fireworks Festival, London

When: Saturday 7 November 2015; gates open at 3pm, display at 8pm.
Where: Alexandra Palace, Kensington, London
Cost: £10 per adult, £7.50 per child (10-15 years).

London is easily reached from Oxfordshire, so if you want to go all out this Bonfire Night, you can’t do much better than this outstanding event at London’s Alexandra Palace. With a fireworks display described by the organisers as “bigger and brighter than ever with a longer running time and an epic laser show”, this festival also features all manner of other entertainment, including a street food and craft beer fair featuring top London vendors, a bonfire, a German bier festival, two funfairs, ice skating and a whole lot more.
