1. The Boat Race

Where: Putney to Mortlake

When: 2 April 2017

The biggest event in the rowing year, the elite Oxford and Cambridge rowing teams once again compete in the iconic Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, sponsored this year by Cancer Research UK. Make your way down to the Thames and cheer on your favourite team as you watch the action unfold.

2. Oxfordshire Business Awards

Where: The King’s Centre, Oxford

When: 16 June 2017

Celebrating the successes of a wealth of Oxfordshire businesses, the annual Oxfordshire Business Awards dinner takes place this year on Friday 16 June at The King’s Centre in Oxford. Whether your business is up for an award, or you just want to use the dinner as a fantastic networking opportunity, this is surely the biggest event on the Oxfordshire business calendar.

3. Wimbledon Championships

Where: Wimbledon, London

When: 3 – 16 July 2017

Everyone’s favourite tennis tournament is back for another year, complete with long-standing traditions such as strawberries and cream. The perfect way to while away a summer’s afternoon, the experience of being at Wimbledon is so much more exciting than watching it on television. The singles titles were won last year by Andy Murray and Serena Williams; who will take the crown this year?

4. The BBC Proms

Where: The Royal Albert Hall, London

When: 14 July – 9 September 2017

The nation’s biggest classical music festival is the perfect chance to give yourself a dose of culture. With concerts happening every night, there are performances spanning every era of classical composition – so you’re virtually guaranteed to find something by your favourite composer. Get your hands on a coveted Last Night of the Proms ticket for some good old-fashioned Britishness, or grab a £5 ticket on any other night and ‘prom’ with the best of them.

5. Glorious Goodwood

Where: Goodwood Race Course, Chichester, Sussex

When: 1 – 5 August 2017

Don your finery and head down to one of the most popular fixtures in the horse racing calendar. King Edward VII described Goodwood as a “garden party with racing tacked on”, and that atmosphere lives on today. Be sure to check the dress code carefully before you go, and look forward to the best of British racing hospitality in the brand new Sussex Roof Garden.

6. Foodies Festival

Where: South Park, Oxford

When: 1 – 3 September 2017

Whether you’re watching cooking demonstrations by Michelin-starred chefs or sampling the numerous free samples on offer at the artisan food market, Oxford’s popular Foodies Festival is best enjoyed with a glass or two of your favourite tipple from the Pimms Tea Pot, the Vintage Cider Tent or whatever else takes your fancy.
