Top honeymoon destinations for winter weddings
Last month we shared some ideas for winter weddings, so this month we’re following that up with some ideas for where you could jet off on honeymoon if you’re getting married in the winter.
Five-star luxury in the Maldives
If it’s a classic tropical island honeymoon you’re after, winter is a great time to visit the Maldives for the picture-perfect white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. Spend your days diving the coral reefs – many resorts have their own ‘house reef’ – and soak up the romantic atmosphere with dinner on the beach by night.
A road trip in Australia and New Zealand
Our winter is their summer, so a honeymoon to Australia and/or New Zealand is the perfect way to follow a UK winter wedding. Pick one or the other, or combine the two and make the most of the long flight by seeing the highlights of both. New Zealand is ideally suited to a road trip, so if you’d rather get out into the wilderness than swan around a five-star hotel, this stunning country has all the incredible landscape you could wish for. Over in Australia, you could be watching a performance in the Sydney Opera House one day and snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef the next.
Skiing in the Alps
Ideal for active couples, a skiing holiday in the Alps makes a great alternative honeymoon idea. After long days out on the slopes, you can’t get a more romantic setting than relaxing by the fire with a glass of wine in your own cosy log cabin. A snowy Alpine honeymoon is a beautiful choice even if you’re not keen on skiing, thanks to luxurious spas, crystalline lakes, and villages that wouldn’t look out of place on a Swiss chocolate box.
Northern Lights in Lapland
Sticking with the snowy theme, the Scandinavian countries are enjoying enormous popularity at the moment thanks to their natural beauty, cosy culture and romantic atmosphere. For a wintry honeymoon, you can’t do much better than Finnish Lapland, where you can stay in a glass igloo in the forest and watch the Northern Lights from your bed. Throw in a husky sled experience and meeting reindeer, and you have all the ingredients of a magical winter honeymoon.
A South African safari in the Serengeti
Going on safari is a popular ‘bucket list’ item, so why not combine it with your honeymoon for a true once-in-a-lifetime experience? The animals of the Serengeti, such as wildebeest, have their calves in January and February, making it a great time of year for spotting baby animals and the predators they attract.
